Later we

On 29th June Lamont wrote you a personal letter touching upon certain matters in connection with the proposed 'Canton-Hankow' Hailway. To this latter of Lamont's Mr. Jones

replied by letter to myself dated 17th August. received a further letter from Mr. Lamont dated 19th September copy of which was sent to Mr. Jones on 3rd October, to which Bir Newton btabb replied to myself under date 4th October. Copy of the plan which accompanied Sir Newton Stabb's letter of 4th October was duly forwarded to New York and we have now received from Mesurs, J.P, Morgan & Co. letter of acknowledg- ment dated 2nd November copy of which I enclose along with copy of Mr. Stevena's memorandum referred to therein.

Perhaps when you have had time to look into this matter you will give me an opportunity of discussing it with you in order that we may endeavour to supply the information

which the American Group desires.
